Ann Schaefer

— Piano Instructor

Ann Schaefer received her Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance at the Oberlin Conservatory and a Master of Music in Piano Performance from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University.  She is currently pursuing a second master’s degree in collaborative piano at the University of Texas at Austin Butler School of Music.  Career highlights thus far include performances at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., at the DiMenna Center in New York City with the International Contemporary Ensemble, at the Aspen Music Festival and School with the Aspen Chamber Orchestra in a premier of Mohammed Fairouz’s “Typhoid Mary”, and with the Cypress Trio during a summer residency at the Banff Centre in Alberta, Canada. Upon graduation from Oberlin, Schaefer received the Piano Faculty Prize in Accompanying. While at Indiana University, she served as accompanist for the studio of renowned bass-baritone Timothy Noble, and was also appointed to the faculty of the Jacobs School of Music Pre-College piano program.  Ms. Schaefer has taught students at the Brooklyn Musical Arts School and in the P.A.L.S. program at the Aspen Music Festival and School.  Her principal piano teachers have included Marc Ryser, Peter Takács, and Arnaldo Cohen.  In the summer of 2015, Ms. Schaefer was awarded a collaborative piano fellowship at the Bowdoin International Music Festival in Maine.  She spent the summer of 2016 as a full scholarship student of collaborative piano at the Aspen Music Festival and School.\r\n\r\nAnn loves performing and collaborating, but feels that teaching is her real musical calling. Ann has taught privately at the Brooklyn Musical Arts School, taught young developing students at the Aspen Music Festival and School, and has served on the faculty of Indiana University Jacobs School of Music Pre-College program. Her students have been prize-winners at competitions and have given successful recitals. Ann is able to coach any genre of music and any level or age of student and believes strongly in giving each student a solid technical foundation, while always encouraging and developing their natural musical instincts. Her most important goal with each of my students is to help them discover their own unique voice and to help them communicate more freely through their music.
