Piano Instructor

Meei Fukuyama

Meei Fukuyama currently serves as a piano instructor at the Eastside Music School and resides in the Austin area. Prior to the current position, Ms. Fukuyama served as a piano instructor at the Thurman School of Music in Dallas, Texas. In addition, Ms. Fukuyama has also freelanced within her private piano studio and has provided lessons on various woodwind, brass, string, and percussion instruments as she obtained her Texas Standard EC-12 teaching certification (TEA) with Southern Methodist University in 2021.

Ms. Fukuyama values the inclusive music learning experience and is in the perfect position to help learners not only encounter the accidentals in music they learn to play, but to confront the accidentals in their lives with strength and skill. Above all, I want my students to know they can make a difference in the world and that they always have my support. When I think back on the music teachers that had the greatest impact on my life, I do not think of the assignments or the amount of performing materials that was expected of me week to week; I think about the way they made me feel. I believe that teaching music is so much more than reading and performing, even though I want my students to enhance their abilities in both areas.

In 2020, Ms. Fukuyama earned a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. While in her bachelor’s, Ms. Fukuyama freelanced as a professional musician in the greater Dallas/Ft. Worth area. Currently Ms. Fukuyama is working on obtaining her Master of Music degree in Music and Human Learning at the University of Texas at Austin. Ms. Fukuyama has studied with renowned pianists Fenia Chang, Eva Polgar, and David Karp.
