Alexia Benson
As a dedicated creative who channels her emotions deeply through music, Alexia believes in building a relationship with her students to help them thrive and enjoy music in their personal lives. By letting her students’ interests guide their passion for learning music, she enjoys being a guiding hand, giving them direction in which areas they want to pursue. From here, she communicates with students about their practice needs and offers advice on how they can reach their musical goals outside of lessons. Alexia believes in the balance of giving space for exploration while also challenging her students to reach the goals they have set, all with a positive attitude of patience, compassion, and gratitude.
She recently graduated with her Master’s in Music Composition from the University of Michigan and holds a Bachelor’s in Composition and Vocal Performance from the University of Redlands in Southern California. Her background in classical composition and opera has given her a strong foundation in technique and creativity, which she passes on to her students. However, she is very open-minded and enjoys performing jazz, pop, soul, and so on! She has released her own music on Spotify, leads her own band, and is a gigging musician in Austin. Some students have even gone on to create their own compositions and songs to perform at recitals. One student chose to learn one of Alexia’s songs and unexpectedly performed it with her onstage during a live show!
