amanda mccarthy

Amanda McCarthy is an Austin based mezzo/contralto and educator native to New Orleans, Louisiana. She began studying voice at the age of 12 with private voice lessons. She moved on to study vocal music at the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts in high school, and continued to study vocal music for her Bachelor’s and Master’s degree at Loyola University New Orleans and Texas State San Marcos respectively. Amanda has worked as a chorister for the New Orleans Opera Association for almost a decade, and moved to Austin a year ago. Since moving to Austin, she has pursued performance opportunities with local companies like Gilbert and Sullivan Austin. Due to Amanda’s deep love of music, she is also a musical creative, making her own music as well as crossing into other musical genres such as jazz, musical theatre, and RnB. She has had the privilege of performing with some incredible musicians such as Ellis and Jason Marsalis. She has also had the incredible opportunity to sing internationally through various vocal programs in Canada, the UK, and Germany. If there is one take away she has learned from her experiences, it is that vocal music is a doorway to self discovery and expression that anyone can enter. Through this craft we can not only become better music appreciators and musicians, but we can also build confidence and become stronger as people too!
