Devon Scarlatti
Devon’s journey began when she was 18 years old teaching beginner level piano in her ranch home at the time in Concan, Texas. She has worked as a private music instructor for 19 years now offering piano, saxophone and clarinet lessons to students of all ages ranging from 3 to 60 years old. Devon never stopped having a passion for teaching music to others since then. And has always felt it was an important mission for her to spread that same appreciation, love and knowledge she has of music to others.
Devon developed her instructing methods to counteract her own experiences with music teachers in the past at a very young age that were all about the very “strict rules” of classical music. Even though this wasn’t something that deterred her from continuing her studies. She saw many others around her becoming discouraged by the lack of encouragement, creativity and passion around music. That’s why she tries to allow her own students to connect and have fun with music as much as possible, focusing on what their goals and music interests are. While still teaching them core, valuable skills that will stick with them throughout the years and help propel them forward in their own journey as a musician.
Devon is an accomplished multi-instrumentalist, film composer, audio engineer and prolific songwriter as solo artist from the synth-electronic band Maestro Eternal. She’s been a multi-instrumental musician with her main focuses being in piano for 31 years, a saxophonist for 28 years and an audio engineer for around 14 years working in the professional music industry.
After graduating high school, she went on to major in Film Scoring & Orchestration at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts with her principal instrument studies in piano and secondary instrument in saxophone. She has a deep passion for films and loves the idea of how music shapes the cinematic experience. After her time at Berklee, she moved back to Texas and went on to find work as a freelance composer for indie films.
Along with being a film composer, during this time in the 2010’s, she taught junior high and high school concert and jazz band instructor for Vanguard Institute in Boerne Texas. And also during this time, moved on to continue her studies as an audio engineer in San Antonio from the Audio Engineering Institute mentored by esteemed sound engineer Marius Perron III. This is where she continued to thrive in many professional music studios as a mixing engineer, a live sound engineer for many touring bands & local venues all over the South Central Texas area and also as a TV broadcast audio engineer.
Currently, Devon is returning to her alma mater at Berklee College of Music (online) in the ultimate pursuit of her Master’s in Music Composition for Film, TV and Games.
When Devon isn’t working on furthering her own career in music or teaching others, some of her hobbies include writing, painting, hiking, video games, going to the movies and spending time with her pets at home.
