Robert Slangen

 

Robert Slangen is a multi-instrumentalist, music producer, performer, and educator based out of Austin, TX. He specializes in teaching modern voice, opera, electronic music production, drums & percussion, piano, guitar, hammered dulcimer and music theory. In addition to his diverse teaching skills, Slangen has also worked and performed with artists and bands across various genres.

Slangen’s project Trouble in The Streets won the 2018 Austin Music Awards for Best New Band and was also awarded a grant from The Sonic Guild Music Foundation. He has shared stages with renowned acts such as George Clinton and The Parliament Funkadelic, Seun Kuti, Brad Wilk of Rage Against The Machine, Phantogram, Zoogma, EOTO, Beach Fossils, and Grammy Award-winning artists like Grupo Fantasma, Hootie and The Blowfish, The Rebirth Brass Band, Victor Wooten, and Snarky Puppy. As an opera performer, Slangen has an extensive background, holding a B.A. in Music Performance and Education from Salisbury University. He has worked professionally with notable companies such as the Dayton Performing Arts Alliance and the Vienna Konservatorium in Europe. During his time at The Schuster Center, Slangen worked under conductor Joseph Mechavich of the New York City Opera in productions such as Puccini’s Madame Butterfly and Saint-Saëns’ Samson et Dalila. Additionally, he has studied and performed in the Centro Studi Italiani Opera Festival in Urbania, Italy. He has also sang the role of Aeneas in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas and was featured in the SSO performance of Mendelssohn’s Elijah.

In addition to his classical music background, Slangen currently produces EDM under the name ALTZILLA, blending his broad musical expertise with modern electronic sounds.
