Drum teacher

Ryan Neubauer

Since moving to Austin 14 years ago from Davenport Iowa, Ryan has become one of the most versatile and in demand drummers in Central Texas. On any given weekend you may find Ryan performing in the styles of early jazz, rock, country, western swing, NOLA second line, and everything in between and beyond. This speaks to Ryan’s holistic approach to music and percussion. Having fun and playing to the song/moment are his guiding principles when behind the kit on a gig or recording session.

When teaching, Ryan hopes to inspire creativity while helping his students form a strong foundation on which to grow. Ryan likes to meet his students where they are in their musical journey and shepherd them towards their goals. Since playing drums can be physically demanding at times, proper technique is important to him so as to prevent injuries in the future and to maximize fun.

Ryan has performed with artists such as Childish Gambino, Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears, The Joymakers, Minor Mishap Marching Band, My Brightest Diamond, Austin Samba School, and so many more. He leads his New Orleans style brass band, Moon Tower Brass Band, and composes instrumental spaghetti western and desert rock music under the name of The Mirage Marauders.

When Ryan isn’t playing drums, or guitar, or bass, he’s probably watching baseball and singing to his giant dog, Bodhi.
