FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What's the best age to start piano lessons?
Most children are ready to begin around age 6–7, when their hands are large enough to reach an octave comfortably and they can focus for 30 minutes. That said, adults of any age can and do learn piano successfully — there’s no upper age limit.
Do I need a piano at home to take lessons?
We recommend having a keyboard or piano at home for practice, but you don’t need one before your first lesson. We can recommend affordable options once we understand your goals and available space.
Can I learn piano as a complete adult beginner?
Absolutely. Many of our most enthusiastic students start piano as adults with zero prior experience. Adults often progress faster than children because of greater focus and stronger motivation. We teach adults at every level, from total beginner to returning players.
Do you teach classical and contemporary piano?
Yes — our teachers cover both. Some students want to read sheet music and work through classical repertoire; others want to play by ear, learn chord-based pop, or improvise jazz. Most of our teachers are comfortable mixing styles within a single lesson plan.
Do you offer piano lessons online?
Yes. Virtual piano lessons are available via Zoom and are just as effective as in-person for most students. Your instructor can see your hand position, demonstrate technique in real time, and assign practice material digitally.

Eastside Music School hosts Monthly open mic nights for current and prospective students. The open mic night is a great, low pressure opportunity to perform in front of friends and fellow students. Whether you’ve just completed a song or you’re working on your next solo, this is a great motivator to practice and take your skills to the next level..
END OF SEMESTER RECITALS
We host a big recital at the end of each semester (December and May). The recital is the culmination of months of hard work from students and teachers alike. While it can be a little intimidating at first, many of our students find great joy performing in front of friends and family. Of course participation is encouraged but not required.
